Hello.
I have got some questions about windows 7.
I don't have windows 7 myself but one of my friends upgrated to windows 7 and i had a chance to play with it as well and i have to say that i am very impressed with it.
I really liked the fact that windows 7 work really well with nvda.
Now my questions.
Do you know if it is possible to run Jim Kitchen games under windows 7?
We tried two games and we didn't mannage to get them to work.
We cannot use the xp mode because he has got windows 7 home.
Also could you explain to me how the volume control works under windows 7?
I know how to change the output volumes of the different programs but i didn't understand how we can control the input volume of the microphone, line in etc. And how do we choose which one we need to use.
Also is there stereo mix or what you hear or whatever it is called under windows 7 like we have on xp?
Thanks in advance and i hope my questions make sence.

For the volumes for these options you'd have to go to control pannel, the sounds and find them their. The games I don't know about.

the games should work, i've managed to do it myself. make sure to install the winKit application as that can help with those problems. also as a note, if you can find the file that runs when a program launches you can set that program to run in compatibility mode, meaning it will run as if it's in that ealier version of windows. the choices are pretty large.

For the volumes, right click the speaker icon, where you adjusted the volume for the other applications, and choose recording devices. Select your microphone, and go to the properties button. Save yourself some time then going to control panel and doing it that way.

I thought about that suggestion after I posted but did not have time to come back. Smile. That works as well.

i thought the what u hear opton was a feature of the sound blaster cards that were used alot back then and now that alot of pcs come with RealTek and other cheaper audio cards taht may be why we haven't seen that option anymore .. not sure though.

Hi,

Regarding the stereo-mix/ what you hear option, it is disabled in windows 7 by default.

Here's how to enable it:
1. press start, and in the search box, type: card settings followed by pressing enter.
2. go to the recording tab and press the tab key to get in to the listview.
3. press the applications key and ensure that "show disabled devices is checked. if it is not checked press enter to check it.
4. navigate the list view, and in my case as I have a creative sound blaster sound card, the what you hear was present. If you find the option you're looking for, highlight it, and tab until you get to properties. then press spacebar to go in to the properties dialog.
5. Press tab until you get to device usage: enable it by using the up arrow.
6. press tab till you get to ok.
7. tab again until you get to ok again to close the sound dialog.
note: If you have two sound-cards, you can choose the card which you like to have the stereo mix on by pressing on the set as default button.

Regards,

oops, before I forget...
If you were able to successfully enable the stereo mix, you might be wondering about how to adjust the volume of it, mute it, or listen to it via another device.

In the properties dialog where you found the device usage combo box, there are other tabs beside general and I'm sure they are self-explanatory.

I suggest you guys who haveany further questions about windows 7 go to www.windows7.com. I hope i'm giving that site the correct address. you should also go to blind cool tech and look at the podcasts that rick harmon has done on it. there is also an email list for windows7, but i'm not sure what the u r l to sign up for that is at the moment. rick harmon gave it out in the podcasts that he did, so I'd suggest you have a look at them

As stated before yes Jim Kitchen's games do work but you need to install the life game installer it has the files you need for the rest of his games.
